This is a very good topic! Beer is a unique American culture theme, indeed. And the commercial and your paper are closed related as I have read the first four pages of it.
I find this topic very interesting because it relates to most college students. The partying and drinking is mostly related to the younger era, you don't see many adults going to parties anymore. You should do research on who drinks more often, whether its college students or adults. Even though adults do not party like we do, they still drink.
This commercial and topic you chose is very good with American culture because every year we here about so many deaths from alcohol. It is very scary. Not only seeing the young party a lot in the commercial, you should mention how adults are interacting with their kids about doing this or how much adults drink too. You should look at events in which the most beer is drank because that also plays a part on who is drinking more.
I think you did a good job explaining the connection between alcohol and American culture. Maybe you could talk about how the commercial doesn't show the consequences of drinking, even underage drinking to be specific (ex: effects on the brain). You could even talk about how the perception of alcohol throughout the decades in the commercial remains the same. Hope this helps!
I think that the topic is widely concerned by American society and the commercial is fun. It reflects how American culture view alcohols. Even though people in America like alcohol, the alcohol’s effect on people’s health and other social problem should also be addressed. The presentation does a good job in addressing that.
I liked your commercial and I think that it went very well in your presentation. You seemed to havea broad knowledge on the subject. I think that you could add the ideology of the four american past times(baseball, hotdogs, apple pie, and chevrolet) into your argument saying that beer is or wants to be one of them.
Your presentation was good! The link between your sources and commercial was clear. If you need to add more to your final paper, I think it would be a good idea to add more specific examples of the negative consequences that drinking alcohol can have. In class, one thing that was mentioned in the discussion of you presentation is that drinking has more social repercussions in America than in most other countries. This might be for many reasons, one of them being because Americans also drive more. I think it would be interesting for you to talk about the parts of our culture that make drinking irresponsibly so dangerous.
Drinking alcohol is not very attractive in China. Because it's legal that we can drink at any age if we want. When I went to American, I found it's very exciting to arrive 21 years old. Somehow, drinking alcohol has the typical representa meaning.
Definitely, beer is an important part of American culture. In the commercial, the image of beer is in positive side. It seems that beer represents happiness and celebration. Indeed, beer would drive people become too excited to do something hurt themselves. I think it is good to describe more negative faces of beer. Also compare to other countries' people drinking beer, what is the different.
I think you chose a good topic. I think beer is definitely a strong drink that is seen in American culture. It is a main part of not only parties, but whenever I have gone to sporting games such as football or mainly hockey games I look around to see almost everyone drinking away as they cheer for their team. Maybe talking about other main social events american's drink beer at that play a part in our culture would be a good idea. I also agree with those that posted about researching how alcohol is seen in other cultures where the drinking age is much lower.
Your presentation was very good and i understood clearly about your arguement. Um like everyone is saying talk more about the consequences of alcohol. Alot of commercials always get straight to the point "dont drink" but if i was from somewhere else and had no clue about the negativity points of alcohol i would want to know why so provide more facts. In the commercial yes they used the young crowd to kinda show that the audience they were speaking too well...adults are drinking more than teenagers in my opinion it may not be to the extent of partying but just having a lil glass of wine or something. So yea its a heavy subject but really good argument. Good job!
maybe you can talk about how beer is portrayed and valued in american society versus what alcohol can alcohol can actually do to your body. in doing so, you can see some cultural values that american society sees as important. like, do we value fun vs health. i value fun for sure. lol.
I like your presentation very much! Alcohol has a crucial status in American society and history. Focusing on the influence of alcohol to American could reveal abundant aspects in American culture. For example, in this commercial, alcohol is related to several significant historical events of United States, which reflects the necessity of alcohol in American culture.
This is a really interesting topic. I think America is really a huge alcohol consume country, here I can give you a little bit information which is highly related to my research work in a neuroscience lab:) I am not sure if you have heard the expression "Asian flush", basically it refers to that the condition in which an individual's face or body experiences flushes or blotches as a result of an accumulation of acetaldehytde, a metabolic byproduct of the catabolic metabolism of alcohol. It is commonly thought that the flush reaction is caused by an inability to metabolize alcohol. A lot of the Asian have the problem but not a lot Americans. In my opinion, that's also a reason why in American culture people enjoy the alcohol much more than other cultures.:) Again, Great job!

ReplyDeleteI think this topic is good for our college student and american culture. But you should express your opinion towards alcohol though your paper.
